Analyse the ways in which meaning is constructed in this media product.

Analyse the ways in which meaning is constructed in this media product. from this image of an advert for Rimmell lipstick, we can see that there is a young women in her 20s looking at the viewer while sipping on a soft drink while in very heavy make-up completed by having deep red lipstick, which would suggest love through the connotation that red represents love. she is wearing big earrings, big metal bangles and a jean shirt with no sleeves which looks like it was ripped from two separate pairs of jeans, which would suggest she is rebellious and against what is normal in society which would be linked to the main title saying; "wild without a trace". this is a also backed by the producer purposely giving the model a carefree and disinterested facial expression. The background is coloured in a majority of pink which would suggest that the advert is aimed for a younger female audience. the background is complete with messy towels with the Union Jack stained into the...

Icarus review

Image
while watching this documentary on Netflix, I found myself immersed in the world of how crooked the tests for PED's was, and how Russia was cheating its own system. the whole documentary is with Bryan Fogel who sets out to prove that anti doping tests in sports are badly run and can be bypassed To do this he enlists the help of Grigory   Rodchenkov. The man who created the tests himself. Grigory creates a plan of steroids which imitates what Lance Armstrong did to win his tour de france wins. the plan proves sucessful until the russian conspiracy is uncovered and the anti doping lab Grigory works at is put into lockdown. the film then follows the events that follows with russia's suspension and the case against russia. I personally love how the documentry keeps making refrences to George Orwell's 1984 and how people are forced into compliance. I also really like the way that some of grigory's monolouges are completed using animation and certain images are of ...

Hateful eight review

Image
I have a very personal love for the brilliant films made by Quentin Tarantino. He always manages to give films a great blend of psychotic gorefest type scenes. a quiet slow paced very cleverly written conversations between certain charcters. And after watching the Hateful Eight for the first time the other day, this is still very much the case even in his later films. The film gives a seemingly ridiculous idea of basically setting a murder mystery in a building during a snowstorm between eight different phychopaths played by an all-star cast featuring Sam L Jackson, Kurt Russell and Tim Roth, and threads very intricate plot points and it still manages to have a lot of slow paced and wordy trademark Tarantino scenes. Which overall makes the film an even better watch in my book which is why I give it a 8/10.

This is America analysis.

https://youtu.be/VYOjWnS4cMY In his song, this is America, Childish Gambino uses lots of codes and refrences which can be connotated to how awful the treatment of the black comunity has been in the past. The music video starts by having bright and positive music with a man playing a guitar who looks not dissimilar to treyvan martin's father who fought for his justice when he was murdered by the police for being black. A theme that will very much be touched upon in the rest of the video. The camera then slowly pans to a close shot of Gambino who starts happily dancing to the music until he passes the man with a guitar, Pulls out a gun and strikes a pose commonly associated with Jim crow who was a cartoon that was anti black and shown in the racist show the black and white mistrel show as entertaiment for white people in the early 30s. Childish Gambino then casually shoots him and then the music suddenly turns much lower and darker as Gambino hands the gun to someone presentin...

Dr Who season 11 episode one reveiw

Image
in the newest episode of britain's favorite sci-fi show, we were introduced to the new doctor (played by Jodie wittaker) and the three companions set to join her across the galaxy. the idea of the episode is very simple by having an  alien race that hunts for honor come to earth and collect people teeth as trophies. the exercution of it it is very hit and miss in places but this can be expected by most post regeneration stories and this wasnt helped by the show having to find a new writer in Neil Gaiman after Steven moffat and mark gattis begane to run out of ideas for stories and were becoming too busy with other projects. this is made clear by most of the jokes being hit or miss overall. the charcter of the new doctor was made very well and feels distinctive and fun. they way jodie wittaker adds her own huddwesfeild accent and makes the Doctor come across as a child in a adults body does make for some funny jokes in the episode. her charcter is also complimented well by t...

rolling stone magazine review

Image
the rolling stone magazine is clearly presented for its target audience of rebellious teenagers by having very vibrant colours and having Johnny Knoxville as the literal centre of attention on the magazine and this is clear when seeing that he is in front of the masthead and him looking directly at the reader is clearly one of the main draw factors for people who might want to read the rolling stone. the use of font is very interesting too with the masthead and head lines being in serif form. it should also be noted that the headlines try to take up as much of the page as possible and they also have trigger words such as Breakup and Jackass so they can also draw as much attention to the reader as possible towards its cover. the general messiness and disorganised state of the cover would also appeal to its younger audience but this may not be the case with no barcode shown on the front cover which would contradict the messy nature of the magazine. the way Knoxville is portrayed by ...

the Stella Artios advert

Image
in this advert we are shown a solider returning from the first world war into his small provincial hometown where he meets his father who owns a bar to much celebration. the farther suggests that they all drink his finest wine but the son disagrees and asks for a Stella Atrois which could have a connotation of being better than wine for certain occasions. the father allows it hesitantly and pours him a glass of Stella. one of the sons friends asks for a pint which the father agrees to but he puts his foot on the pipe to make it seem that they have run out which could be a connotation of the fact the producers wanted to show that Stella is so good that some people shouldn't be given it. the advert ends with the tagline, "reassuringly expensive" which could be one of the producers claiming that the beer justifies its price with its great taste

a study on Cortana

Image
Cortana Cortana is from the very popular first person shooter series Halo develop by at first Bungie but now it is owned by Microsoft and their 343 division after they Kept the licence after Bungie plot away from microsoft. the premise of the game is that humanity has expanded across the universe and met an evil alien species called the Covanent. in order to fight them the now reformed UNSC created a set of super soldiers called spartans. each spartan has its own set of powerful amour witch comes with its own individual AI in which case the one assigned to the master chief (the character you play in the game.) is Called Cortana who gives tactical advice to Master Chief in combat and aids him by working in technical jobs that Chief is unable to do. other characters in this game are portrayed as physical and tough characters so Cortana provided a nice change of pace for her to be a much more innocent and silent working assistant. In Halo 4 it is mentioned that Cortana is getting prob...

Mad Max: Fury Road trailer

Image
From watching the trailer for one of my favorite films, the trailer perfectly encapsulates the completely bonkers nature of the film the way it begins with drastic changes in the music from very soft and quiet opera at the beginning when max is narrating into full thrash opera when the trailer begins to show the action scenes from the film although this is broken up when the famous line "oh what a lovely day" is yelled by Nicholas Hoult's character; Nux. it should also be noted how the trailer uses very fast editing between certain shots and breaks up the action with words between each scene. so the audience isn't shown too much in the mise-en-scene so that they know everything that will happen before they have even watched the film.
